4 Pilates Props That Truly Elevate Your Mat Practice
I strongly believe that classical pilates can be done with just our bodies and slow intentional movements. But if you are looking to upgrade your at home set up for a propped filled workout, voilà!
Pilates Stability Ball
I love to use a pilates / stability ball to activate the deep core muscles. I noticed early on in my pilates journey how much of a difference this simple addition made to my workouts. This instability from the ball, forces your deep core muscles, transverse abdominis, pelvic floor, and multifidus to turn on and maintain balance.
a light and small ball like this one that I have, adds a bit of resistance. It can be great when targeting other areas like the inner thigh, glutes while bridging, and planks.
when placed under the thoracic spine it also helps cue a stronger rib expansion and aid in teaching thorough breathwork to articulate each move.
If I had to choose one prop to buy first, it would be a pilates ball due to its versatility. I love mine truly, and always pack it in my suitcase while traveling since it is super simple to deflate. Always love the option to get a little extra in while I am away since movement is like medicine for me.
Athlē ankle weights:
When it comes to ankle weights I am a bit picky since they can be so uncomfortable, fall off easily, and are prone to malfunction if not high quality.
The Athlē weights are beautiful and a signature to any of my workouts for an added burn. They come in a range of colors way and come in three different weights depending on your preference, I like to use the 2lbs.
Stakt mats:
I feel like this one maybe a fan favorite? These mats are so comfortable and functional while also coming in a range of colors. I have the shade dune and it is perfect. Simply!
Fitness Circle
Specifically this one from Merrithew, when my inner thighs feel like they can’t hold on anymore due to the shakes I realized the foam grips provide a great amount of comfort when squeezing. 12/10.
Happy moving,
